LABADIE, ANTOINE LOUIS DESCOMPS dit (b. 1730, d. DEC 1807)
Note: Taken from Border Cities Star, Dec 10, 1932 "First Labadie, Father of 33, Here in 1769"
"Antoine, it may be said here, had more than his share of domesticality. When his first wife died about 1767 leaving 7 children, he married the daughter of a Souix Chief and of this union 17 children were born in 17 years. In 1784, he married the former Charlotte Barthe, daughter of a French Armyu surgeon and young widow of a British officer, Lieut. Louis Reaume. Vital statistics subsequent to this event show that the stork made nine more visits to the Labadie household. The grand total for Antoine's three marriages was 33. (NOTE: I HAVE NOT YET FOUND ALL THE CHILDREN)

Taken from a Labadie family tree at the Windsor Library.
According to custom, Anthony did not marry the Indian woman (although his will calls her his wife), but they lived together for 15 years and had 8 children. The couple occasionally came into Sandwich, at which time they would have their children baptised. Three children were baptised on July 7, 1773, and four more were baptised November 1782.

Taken from "Commemorative Biographical Record of the County of Essex" by J.H. Beers & Co, 1905 reprint 1906, Call No R920 Com.
Record recounting the Montreuil's golden wedding anniversary.
"Mr. Francis Cleary followed with an interesting account of Mr. Montreuil's ancestors. From the will of Antoine Descompte Labadie, of which Mr. Cleary had a copy, many interesting items were obtained. The will, which is dated 26th May, 1806, describes the testator as 'being infirm and far advanced in years, but, thank God, being sound in memory, and understanding and fearing to be surprised by death before I had settled my temperal affairs, will ordain,' etc. One clause in the will goes to show that slavery existed in this part of the British possessions some years after it had been abolished by the first Parliament of Canada. The clause is: 'I give and bequeath to Charlotte, my wife, the use or service of two slaves that she may select, as long as she continues to be a widow.' In another part of the will he directs certain personal property as well as his slaves with the exception of the two before mentioned, to be sold and the proceeds to be equally divided between his wife and nine children born of their marriage." This account also states "Antoine, in 1744, who married Angelique Campau, by whom he had 7 children. His second wife was a daugher of a chief of the Sioux tribe and his third wife Charlotte Barthe, whome he married in 1784 and who died in 1849 at Detroit, aged 86 years."

Additional Notes:
1) Lt. Edward Abbott sold to Antoine Louis Labadie (desc ) 4 x 80 acres east of land of Lt. John Carden for L100 New York currency.
