Halpern, Josef (b. 23 AUG 1910, d. 13 OCT 1985)
Note: Josef spent 44 months in the concentration camps during WW II. He was at Auschwicz and possibly at Bergen Belson. Joseph never talked much about his time in the camps. He did mention that he had false documents and went by the name of Rudy (no one remembers what the last name was). We also know that the Nazis cut his ear off and then sewed it back on to see if he would be able to hear again. He never did hear again out of that ear.


In 1948 Ilona met Josef through the introduction of her Aunt Anna Torok (aunt went weekly to jail to deliver food & clothing). When Josef was released the Aunt introduced them

In 1950, Josef resided in Camp Hallein, Salzburg, Austria, where George was born.

Note: Abraham had false documents in the name of Alexander Smidoda. He was rounded up with the Jews and spent WW II in the concentration camps. He continued to use the false name for the rest of his life, never going back to Halpern.

Abraham had his burial plot in Israel long before he met Rosa. Rosa is not buried with him because her children refused to let her be buried in his plot since she wasn't "legally" his wife.


His son Alexander was born out of wedlock; but the paternity was acknowledged in document Roll #8/1974 in Germany.
